People of INX: Marisa Willard

Meet our teams and the people behind the software. This is the People of INX Software series.

We’ve made the rounds and spoke to our teams across our Perth, Brisbane, and Canadian offices to share with you what makes our people tick and why they do what they do.

Let’s meet Marisa.

1. What is your role, why did you join INX, and how long have you been here?

I’m the Logistics Product Manager and have been at INX for 10 years. I initially joined as a consultant, with plenty of travel opportunities as well as being based in the city, which appealed to me after having lived the FIFO lifestyle for 5 years.

2. What exciting things are you currently working on?

Right now, my team and I are developing the new InFlight Mobile App which we are hoping to release next year. It’s been an interesting and exciting project to work on and I’m excited for it to be implemented.

3. What is a memorable customer story you’d like to share?

I have a dreadful fear of flying and have been on some truly terrifying flights. Landing surrounded by mountains in PNG on the world’s most dangerous airstrips, landing in the middle of a jungle in Sumatra, I’ve even been on a plane when a fire broke out. One of my best flying experiences was coming back from a site in PNG, the pilot let me sit in the cockpit for the landing, it was really incredible.

Last year I was fortunate enough to go to Milan for a client workshop, the weather was beautiful and the food was amazing. We’re still eating our way through the pasta I bought back.

4. What interesting things have your job allowed you to do?

It’s interesting to see how people look at the same problem in different ways across various countries; this may be because of their professional background, culture, or experiences. It helps us to consider multiple angles when designing our solutions.

5. What’s one piece of advice that has helped you in what you do today?

Try to focus on the things that you can control, and always pack deodorant and a phone charger in your carry-on.

6. Your favorite inspirational quote:

‘We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are’.
A reminder to be aware of your own biases in your interactions.
